Marketing Agency

[aka] apparel printing

aka Apparel Printing

In my last semester at SDSU, I had the amazing opportunity to lead a marketing agency through my club, the American Marketing Association. With this role, I was also on AMA's executive board and enjoyed working alongside the VP of Partnerships and other agency directors.

Back in December of 2023, my first task was finding my client. I spent many weeks cold-emailing companies and individuals pitching the idea of a student-led team coming in and assisting with their marketing. Finally, I received a response from Jason Feather, CEO of aka Apparel Printing, a local screen printing shop in North Park, San Diego. I went on a Zoom call with Jason and sold him on my idea!

Right when the Spring semester started, I chose my team and we started working! The pain points Jason wanted us to work on featured:

Making them no longer "mysterious" to the public

Entire rebrand

New website via Shopify

Social Media content production and strategy (Instagram and LinkedIn)

Event Planning and PR (end of program Open House to highlight our work plus Jason and co-founder Javi)

Website

Jason always joked that we were the best team ever, but he was not wrong! My team worked together so well to complete this program. Isabelle Moret and Ralph Contreras showed off their design skills and successfully completed the new website. Below are some screenshots from Isabelle:

Branding

Nora Pham and Andres Chan did a great job & headed the rebrand plus learned a lot more about the creative side of marketing. Nora and Andres also worked tirelessly to do email outreach about aka to many, many companies. They got aka’s name out to SDSU Clubs who will be using aka for Fall 24 merchandise! To the right is our
finalized brand guideline:

Social Media

Last but definitely not least, my social media girls Sabrina Gonzales and Ariana Daneshmand created social media strategies and got to work posting and creating engaging content to wake up aka's followers! We went from averaging 15 likes to over 70 likes every post! Below are some post examples from Instagram:

Open House

At the end of the program, they all worked together to plan aka's Open House. Creating fliers, social media posts, interacting with other professionals in North Park, plus so much more. Over 100 people attended this open house and discovered aka!

Jason Feather, CEO of aka

β€œIt was great to have fresh young eyes on our process and take their feedback to heart. Over the years we have kept our heads down working day after day and after this program, I realized how we needed a fresh perspective on the outside looking in.”
